The staff and I would like to thank you for your interest in St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School and hope that you will be considering us for your child’s education. At St. Edward’s the children are encouraged to feel that they are valued members of an extended family where each person has a very important part to play. Although I have only been in post as Headteacher since January 2008, I have worked at our school for the last 20 years; many of the other staff are of equal longstanding and we all share a great commitment and love of our school.

St. Edward’s was developed to educate the children from Father Hudson’s Homes and local Catholic families in the early 1900’s. We have been at this site since Easter 1997 and have seen many changes to the buildings but not to the ethos of our school which is based upon our Catholic faith and our desire to follow the ways of Jesus. Today we still serve the local Catholic population as well as children from further a field. Catholic children are transported from outlying areas and any spare spaces are allocated to non Catholic children within Coleshill.

As a Voluntary Aided school we are part of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham and we offer a moral education which follows the teachings of the Church and encourages the children to grow in love and respect for one another and the world about them. Through a rich and varied curriculum, opportunities are provided for the children to develop lively and enquiring minds. They are encouraged to grow in confidence and maturity and develop relevant skills for the future. We help the children to consider world problems such as famines and disasters, environmental issues and local concerns and we support their efforts to alleviate the suffering and hardships of others.

We acknowledge that for children to reach their potential there needs to be an active partnership between ourselves and the parents. For this reason, parents are most welcome in our school and we operate an “open door” policy as much as is possible and opportunities are sought for parents and staff to work together.

A visit to our school is warmly encouraged to enable you to see how the children are able to develop their potential in a friendly, caring and supportive environment where the needs of the individual child are at the heart of our work. Hopefully your visit will endorse my words and you will appreciate the special ethos of the school and feel that St Edward’s is the right place for your child.
