Our School......

Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to St Edward’s School

As Headteacher at St Edward’s Nursery and Primary school it is a pleasure and privilege to welcome you to our website. We are a busy and friendly school with lots going on. St Edward’s is a happy, caring and welcoming environment which aims to fulfil the educational, social and spiritual needs of all our children. Our Catholic values are embodied in our mission statement and are central to the development of our children’s spiritual, moral and vocational understanding. We have a strong Catholic ethos and we are all learning to live, love and work

together as…

“We carry the light of Christ as we love, learn and look after each other”

Everyone in our learning community from pupils to parents, governors to parishioners and our parish priest works hard to achieve success through an unswerving attitude of enthusiasm, encouragement and high expectations. All adults are committed to the development of every child through a collaborative partnership with parents and carers.

This website aims to give you a taster of our school, as well as providing regular updated information for parents and pupils about all that goes on in our busy days from our catholic life to sports and after school activities, to learning and the curriculum.

Please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have. I would be delighted to show you around our school so that you can see the children and staff in action!

“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice”

Be safe, have fun, God Bless.

About Us

The staff and I would like to thank you for your interest in St. Edward’s Catholic Primary School and hope that you will be considering us for your child’s education. At St. Edward’s the children are encouraged to feel that they are valued members of an extended family where each person has a very important part to play. All our staff share a great commitment and

love of our school.

St. Edward’s was developed to educate the children from Father Hudson’s Homes and local Catholic families in the early 1900’s. We have been at this site since Easter 1997 and have seen many changes to the buildings but not to the ethos of our school which is based upon our Catholic faith and our desire to follow the ways of Jesus. Today we still serve the local

Catholic population as well as children from further a field. Catholic children are transported from outlying areas and any spare spaces are allocated to non Catholic children within Coleshill.

As a Voluntary Aided school we are part of the Catholic Diocese of Birmingham and we offer a moral education which follows the teachings of the Church and encourages the children to grow in love and respect for one another and the world about them. Through a rich and varied curriculum, opportunities are provided for the children to develop lively and

enquiring minds. They are encouraged to grow in confidence and maturity and develop relevant skills for the future. We help the children to consider world problems such as famines and disasters, environmental issues and local concerns and we support their efforts to alleviate the suffering and hardships of others.

Our children are growing up in a diverse multicultural society that continues to be troubled by the threat of terrorism. It is therefore vital that we give our children a sense of belonging to the wider community, and to the country in which they live, by promoting British values, helping them to develop and demonstrate skills and attitudes that will allow them to

participate fully in and contribute positively to life in modern Britain. It is important too for them to understand they live in a global society, since "British" values are also shared by many other countries and cultures.

Through our Catholic Ethos and values we actively promote the fundamental British values of: Democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those ith different faiths and beliefs.

We acknowledge that for children to reach their potential there needs to be an active partnership between ourselves and the parents. For this reason, parents are most welcome in our school and we operate an “open door” policy as much as is possible and opportunities are sought for parents and staff to work together.

A visit to our school is warmly encouraged to enable you to see how the children are able to develop their potential in a friendly, caring and supportive environment where the needs of the individual child are at the heart of our work. Hopefully your visit will endorse my words and you will appreciate the special ethos of the school and feel that St Edward’s is the right

place for your child.
