Curriculum

At St Edward's we are aspirational in terms of our curriculum aims and planning, it has engagement and motivation at the heart.

Our faith is central to all aspects of school life and our curriculum ensuring we link our curriculum to Catholic Social Teaching. We follow the Archdiocese of Birmingham’s Curriculum Strategy for Religious Education in Catholic Schools called “Discerning Disciples”. The strategy clearly lays out the steps to be taken in RE at each stage of the Primary Years. We then adapt this in order to make our lessons enjoyable and challenging for our children. As part of the strategy the children learn about what it is to live as Christians today, how the Church is organised from global to parish level and also the opportunities which exist for them to participate in the life of the Church.

Throughout the year, our children also learn about the Liturgical Seasons and have opportunities to link learning to prayer and reflection.

For Maths we follow 'White Rose Maths', English is text driven and is underpinned by 'Wordsmith' and 'Supersonic Phonic Friends' is our Phonics provision. Our reading offer is extensive and progressive, our EYFS and Year 1 read from our phonetically decodable range of books with Year 2 to Year 6 reading from Accelerated reader.  All areas of our curriculum focus on current and prior learning, are knowledge and vocabulary centric and are designed for our children. Our Curriculum offer will be communicated to you via our new school year induction evenings, parents evening and any parental workshops that take place.

If you wish to find out more about our inclusive curricular offer, please contact the School office.
