From the 2021/22 academic year, it is a statutory requirement for schools to administer the multiplication tables check (MTC).

The MTC is an on-screen assessment designed to determine whether pupils are able to fluently recall their multiplication tables up to 12, through a set of timed questions.

Schools must administer the MTC to all eligible year 4 pupils between Monday 6 June and Friday 24 June. Schools are strongly encouraged to administer the check within the first 2 weeks of the check window.

Pupils can use the try it out check to familiarise themselves with the format, including any access arrangements, before taking the official check.
